At a prestigious event held in the federal capital, the ABES Think Tank, a collaboration between the Brazilian Association of Software Companies (ABES) and the Institute of Advanced Studies of the University of São Paulo (IEA/USP), won third place in the 2024 Marco Maciel Award. The honor, conferred by the Brazilian Association of Institutional and Governmental Relations (ABRIG), recognized the initiative in the RIG category in Organized Civil Society.
Prominent representatives of ABES, including Andriei Gutierrez, vice president; Marcelo Almeida, director of Government Relations; Clara Savelli, project coordinator; and Kátia Cardoso, researcher at Think Tank, were present to receive the trophy on behalf of the association.
This recognition highlights the relevance of ABES Think Tank as an intelligence center dedicated to technological development and digital transformation in Brazil. Operating in 15 essential areas, such as smart cities, ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) and artificial intelligence, the Think Tank adopts the quadruple helix model, promoting integration between government, companies, academia and civil society.
Fellowship Program attracts top-level researchers
Through the Fellowship Program, researchers contribute to the creation of public policy proposals that aim to broadly benefit society, incorporating diverse perspectives based on their studies. In addition, with strategic alliances and transparent governance, the ABES Think Tank stands out for its ethical and innovative initiatives, aiming for a more digital and equitable Brazil. To apply, researchers must be doctoral students, postdoctoral students or have completed a doctorate linked to a national or foreign educational institution, with the aim of increasing the level of scientific and technological excellence in the Center's areas of interest.
Jamile Sabatini Marques, Director of Innovation and Promotion at ABES and responsible for the study center, thanked “the ABES Council, the Board of Directors, the leaders of committees and WGs, the researchers, the team and the partners of IEA/USP who, since the launch of the think tank, in 2023, have supported and contributed to its evolution,” she highlighted.
The intellectual production of Think Tank ABES includes a series of articles and studies that address emerging trends and technological challenges. Notably, this production allowed the construction of the book “Technology and Innovation: Public Policies and Regulatory Aspects of the Sector”, compiling 63 articles by 43 authors. The work, available digitally on the Think Tank website, offers a comprehensive overview of current topics such as smart cities, AI and ESG. The distribution of the work to different entities aims to expand the scope of the proposed ideas, garnering more support for their implementation.
As an indication of the continuity of the work, in 2024 around 40 additional articles were published, which will make up a new book planned for release in 2025, reinforcing the Think Tank's commitment to contributing to the creation of a transformative technological future for Brazil.
