  • Tool brings AI-powered natural language assistance to NX X to automate design tasks for experienced users and quickly bring new users up to speed
  • Siemens works with Microsoft to expand cloud options for NX X users on the Microsoft Azure platform

Siemens Digital Industries Software announced it has expanded its collaboration with Microsoft to make its NX™ X software available in the cloud for product engineering through the Microsoft Azure cloud AI platform and integrate it with generative AI and copilot capabilities..

Siemens will provide NX™ X software on Azure to enable organizations to leverage Microsoft’s responsible AI tools and access enterprise-class security combined with Siemens’ leading product engineering software. Earlier this year, Siemens announced the availability of its Teamcenter® X product lifecycle management (PLM) software on Azure.

“Our customers continue to ask Siemens to make our industry-leading industrial software available on Azure,” said Bob Haubrock, senior vice president, product engineering software, Siemens Digital Industries Software. “Our relationship with Microsoft goes back more than 35 years, and we are pleased to once again expand this collaboration to provide our customers with the tools for digital transformation using our joint solutions. With the success of making Teamcenter X available on Azure, we have now expanded to also offer our industry-leading NX X product engineering software on the Azure platform.”

NX X on the Azure platform

As a key pillar of the Siemens Xcelerator as a Service cloud-based industrial software portfolio, NX X provides industry-leading product engineering capabilities for advanced 3D product engineering, allowing customers to focus on innovation. NX X provides centralized cloud-based license management, configuration and capacity provisioning while simplifying IT requirements. NX X integrates seamlessly with Azure cloud services, giving organizations the flexibility to install NX X directly on desktops or access it through virtual desktop solutions, including Azure Virtual Desktop, when needed – maximizing flexibility for distributed teams and enabling them to work efficiently from anywhere. With multi-session hosting and GPU partitioning offered on Azure, the cost-effectiveness of NX X on Azure is further enhanced.

AI-Enhanced NX X

Announced Ahead of Microsoft Ignite 2024 as part of the Siemens Industrial Copilot ecosystem, Siemens’ NX software for product engineering will leverage Phi-3, Microsoft’s family of small language models, to enable users to ask natural language questions, access detailed technical insights, and optimize complex design tasks, enabling faster, smarter product development. In addition, advanced features such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and Domain Specific Language (DSL).

The new AI capability in NX X leverages the robust foundation of AI functionality in NX X to recommend solutions based on best practices, generate code to automate design tasks, and find problem areas, all with natural, human-like interaction. This capability not only reduces errors and rework, but also significantly reduces design time by learning from the user and automating repetitive tasks.

“Microsoft is excited to expand its long-standing collaboration with Siemens, highlighting the role of AI in driving innovation, operational efficiency and digital transformation in the industrial sector,” said Satish Thomas, corporate vice president, Commercial and Industrial Solutions, Microsoft. “By making Siemens’ NX X software available on Azure and integrating its custom AI model, powered by Microsoft Phi-3, into its copilot, Siemens and Microsoft are providing engineers with cloud-based AI solutions to simplify complex challenges and boost productivity.”

Siemens Xcelerator enables companies to create the most comprehensive digital twin, and that process often starts with NX X. NX X integrates seamlessly with solutions across the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, from concept to design, simulation to manufacturing, across all disciplines, managed by Teamcenter X. Through ongoing collaboration between Siemens and Microsoft, NX X brings robust automation and knowledge to the design stage, resulting in a better digital twin, with fewer errors and in less time.

NX X will be available on Azure in the Microsoft Azure Marketplace. To learn more about how Siemens and Microsoft are working together to create next-generation AI-enhanced product engineering software, visit: Link
