New version more than doubles response accuracy and simplifies development of secure, AI-enhanced generative applications
THE Progress, a trusted provider of AI-powered infrastructure software, announces the launch of Progress MarkLogic Server 12. With this tool, Progress expands the proven search capabilities in MarkLogic Server by providing native vector support and new relevance-based algorithms to provide advanced capabilities for customers to leverage AI capabilities. Customers can now more easily integrate generative AI (GenAI) into their enterprise applications with a flexible Retrieval Augmentation (RAG) pattern and securely base LLM models on their private data to enable query answers based on data generated from AI models.
New features in MarkLogic Server 12 increase the relevance and accuracy of GenAI responses through enhanced search techniques. A single API enables users to define, organize, and re-rank search scores for faster, more flexible, and more secure graph RAG implementation. The simplified RAG architecture matches data model and metadata maturity, enabling greater use of enterprise data for GenAI-enhanced applications.

What's new in MarkLogic Server 12:
- Native vector support: Users can enable large-scale similarity searches for AI systems on large amounts of unstructured data. Vector operations can also be performed natively on MarkLogic Server to improve GenAI retrieval accuracy and store vector embeddings close to data in JSON or XML format. These can then be complemented with full-text queries via the Optic API to achieve the highest relevance of results.
- BM25 Relevance Rating – Enhances retrieval with better document ranking to return the most relevant search results. Combines better matching and vector search to re-rank results for optimal search relevance. With MarkLogic Server’s end-to-end search, organizations can combine queries, merge result scores, and re-rank them with a single expression through its unified optical API that analyzes the most relevant content for a user’s query in the LLM model.
- Shortest path of the graph: solves real-world problems related to path planning, network optimization, and resource allocation. Improves contextual relevance of results and response time in AI-enhanced recommender systems using semantic search on knowledge graphs or semantic data on RAG graph architectures.
Progress has also launched the MarkLogic Flux application to add enhanced data movement and transformation capabilities to the core functionality of the MarkLogic platform. This includes support for more data sources, such as relational databases and cloud storage systems like Amazon S3, as well as improved performance through faster ingestion of extremely large, high-volume data, supporting any operational, analytical or AI workload.
