Written by women, the book “The Use of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Inclusion in Public Services”, organized by Camila Cristina Murta, gives a new perspective to the digital transformation in Brazilian public services
Seven researchers linked to the think tank – Center for Intelligence, Public Policies and Innovation, created by the Brazilian Association of Software Companies (ABES) in 2023 in partnership with the Institute of Advanced Studies of the University of São Paulo (IEA/USP) are part of the group of 30 authors of the book The Use of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Inclusion in Public Services. Ana Claudia Donner Abreu, Cibele Perillo, Clara Savelli, Daniella Caverni, Jamile Sabatini Marques and Natalia Marroni Borges represent ABES in the work, which is organized by Camila Cristina Murta, who acts as leader of the Association's Public Procurement Working Group.
The publication, which will be available in major bookstores and digital platforms, provides a new perspective on digital transformation in Brazilian public services, offering a comprehensive view of how artificial intelligence (AI) and digital inclusion can revolutionize the sector, making it more efficient, accessible, and fair. “It is a collection of essays and case studies written by 30 women who work in the public and private technology sectors. The authors address crucial topics such as education, health, public management, algorithmic bias, privacy, and transparency in the application of AI. In addition, the book discusses the ethical and social challenges that accompany the growing use of these technologies, proposing measures to mitigate risks and promote democratic values and human rights,” says Camila Cristina Murta.
The Use of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Inclusion in Public Services also highlights the importance of diversity and female representation in a field where women are still underrepresented. “Each of the contributors is an inspiring example of how determination and knowledge can lead to success, encouraging other women to pursue and achieve leadership positions in technology,” adds Camila.
For Jamile Sabatini Marques, director of development and innovation at ABES and one of the authors of the book, the launch of the work represents a milestone for the discussion on the responsible application of AI in Brazil. “Our mission is to inspire technology professionals and public managers to adopt practices that promote social well-being and digital inclusion,” she says.
The pre-launch of the book took place during Connected Smart Cities & Mobility 2024, held on September 3 and 4 in São Paulo. At the event, ABES was also responsible for organizing the presentation of Success Stories from its members on innovative and effective practices in smart cities and digital government and for presenting first-hand the results of studies carried out by researchers from the association's Think Tank, on different topics. Rodolfo Fücher, president of the ABES Board, participated in the roundtable on Sustainable Urbanism – Environment.
