The result of an unprecedented survey that listed the smartest cities in Brazil and elected Rio de Janeiro (RJ) as a reference in the general ranking of municipalities with more than 500 thousand inhabitants was presented during the event Connected Smart Cities, in São Paulo. The second place was the city of São Paulo (SP), which also led the Mobility segment.

With the objective of identifying relevant factors for the sustainable growth of municipalities and pointing out the Brazilian cities with the greatest potential for development, the Connected Smart Cities Ranking, prepared by Sator and the company Urban Systems, mapped 700 municipalities in order to rank the 50 most developed in a general ranking, in addition to two subdivisions: the first by population range – up to 100,000 inhabitants, from 100,000 to 500,000 and above 500,000 inhabitants – and the second by segment, which pointed out the five best in the items mobility, urbanism , economy, environment, energy, technology and innovation, health, safety, education, governance and entrepreneurship.

The president of Urban Systems, Thomaz Assumpção, believes that the project may awaken new ways of perceiving cities in the public authorities and private initiative. "It is necessary that representatives are aware of the investments and improvements that must be made in the various mapped areas". The director of Sator, Paula Faria, corroborates the fact that the Ranking is an important indicator and highlights the importance of the seminar for the dissemination of ideas. “By proposing solutions, exposing success cases and discussing intelligent paths, Connected Smart Cities encourages urban development”, he points out.
