In just six months, after implementing IBM Turbonomic, the e-commerce platform reduced fixed IT costs in the country by 45%, exceeding the target set for 2025

THE Nuvemshop, the leading e-commerce platform in Latin America, has implemented the IBM Turbonomic and reduced its fixed costs with IT operations in Brazil by more than R$1.1 million per month. In just six months, the company achieved savings of R$451,300 on expenses related to technological resources used in the country, exceeding the target set for 2025.

The project began in late 2023, with a management model focused on adding value to the business. The company's mission was to organize management processes to optimize the use of Nuvemshop's IT resources, starting in Brazil. Faced with the challenge, the company decided to evaluate the IBM Turbonomic automation system and involved CXP Brasil, an IBM business partner specialized in developing various projects for the Finance sector. IBM Turbonomic is an intelligent automation system designed to optimize performance and manage spending on resources based on public, private and hybrid clouds, based on insights generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI).

According to Walter Rodrigues, Director of Operations and Alliances at CXP Brazil, the IBM Turbonomic automation platform was the most recommended suggestion for organizing infrastructure management and optimizing the resources of Nuvemshop’s IT environment. “Our experience with FinOps projects proves that IBM Turbonomic meets the needs of very complex IT architectures, such as those in the financial sector, and it is a project with a very fast return on investment (ROI). Therefore, we knew that this would be the most suitable tool for Nuvemshop, especially since it is an environment that was born 100% in the cloud”, says Rodrigues. The executive recalls that the decision to adopt IBM Turbonomic was almost instantaneous, since the results presented to Nuvemshop, still in the testing phase, were already surprising. “We started the proof of concept and, right after analyzing the first reports, we didn’t turn it off anymore and the IBM platform went into production”, he adds.

Founded in 2011, Nuvemshop has over 130,000 small and medium-sized retailers based on its platform and is part of a complete retail ecosystem that currently brings together over 4,000 partners for products, services and payment methods. Although the company has received billions in investments – including having achieved “unicorn status” in 2021 – it is important to highlight that the rapid growth of this business model generates an immediate increase in the consumption of IT resources and, consequently, in costs.

According to Thiago Borges, IT Director at Nuvemshop, the FinOps concept is essential for expanding operations to remain economically healthy. And this means maximizing revenue and provisioning resources, maintaining the financial availability necessary to sustain the business’s accelerated pace of growth, without affecting profitability. “In other words, it means doing more with less. And it is precisely in this equation that the IBM Turbonomic platform serves us with total efficiency, as it provides us with visibility into the consumption of resources used in the cloud, including in the medium and long term, which facilitates the generation of more assertive insights for the necessary provisioning and brings more efficiency to the management of operational costs. And this gives us not only a reduction in expenses, but also reduces the unit price of transactions”, he explains.

For Thiago Viola, Director of AI, Data and Automation at IBM Brazil, resource optimization based on insights generated by AI is one of the major benefits guaranteed by IBM Turbonomic. With advanced automation and predictive analysis features, in addition to helping reduce operating costs, IBM Turbonomic offers full visibility for IT planning, including provisioning, modernization and optimization of various resources in all types of environments. “The biggest highlight pointed out by customers is the agility of ROI, thanks to the significant cost optimization that the platform provides. This shows that, as organizations implement technologies strategically, according to their needs and in a personalized way, the investment translates into increasing profits”, he concludes.
