THE NEC, a Japanese multinational technology specialist, was included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World), in addition to the edition focused on the Asia-Pacific region. These are two of the most prestigious global investment indices in the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) areas.

The DJSI is an evaluation index developed by S&P Global that analyzes the sustainable practices of leading global companies across the “Governance and Economic”, “Environmental” and “Social” dimensions. Organizations that receive high evaluations are selected for the DJSI Indices.

NEC received high evaluations in categories including “Transparency and Reporting,” “Environmental Policy and Management,” “Climate Strategy,” “Human Capital Management,” and “Privacy Protection” (*1).

In addition to the DJSI World and DJSI Asia Pacific, NEC is included in the FTSE4Good Index Series and the MSCI ESG Leaders Indices as part of its high ESG assessments. The company has received “A List” ratings for five consecutive years in the “Climate Change” and “Water Security” categories, as well as an A List rating for “Supplier Engagement” from the global environmental non-profit CDP. The company has also been awarded a “Platinum” rating for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), in recognition of being among the 1% of the best companies assessed by EcoVadis, a CSR rating platform based in France.

NEC became a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact (*2) in 2005, which is based on the basic principles of human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption, and continues to strive to minimize the impacts that its business activities may have on society. The company seeks to contribute to the creation of value for society through its business and to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) launched by the United Nations. During the Medium-Term Management Plan 2025, with the aim of promoting sustainable growth, NEC intends to ensure continued inclusion in ESG indices and advance initiatives related to materiality, which are priority management topics from an ESG perspective (*3).

NEC also strives to create social values of safety, security, equity and efficiency to promote a more sustainable world where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Based on the NEC Way, a common set of values that serves as the foundation for the conduct of the entire NEC Group, the company contributes to the achievement of the SDGs.
