Instigating research was conducted by School of Chaos, which aims to provide what the company needs in terms of Culture, Leadership and Learning.
There is no doubt that there are three essential pillars for any organization to achieve sustainable success. This article is about the Leadership pillar.
Before commenting on the research, it is worth remembering the phrase:
“Leadership by example is not the best, it is the only leadership.”. It is attributed to Albert Schweitzer, a German physician, theologian, philosopher and humanitarian missionary, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952.
Probably most of the discordant perceptions between leadership and followers, brought by research, arise from the GAP between what leaders say and what they actually practice. Words and/or formal authority count less and less; the example practiced is what counts.
Linkedin research released in 2025
Three in five Brazilians plan to change jobs in 2025, says study LinkedIn.
It is possible that a large part of this reality can also be justified by the gap between leaders and those they lead.
For the research, Escola do Caos initially went into the field and used mapping of content produced by representative organizations, regarding the theme of Leadership, considering what is most common in studies.
After mapping, he interviewed more than 1,300 people to have “The leadership of the future: maturity level of Brazilian leadership”, aiming to help reveal how they see themselves and how they are perceived by their teams.
Research confirms that there is a relevant disconnection between the self-perception of leaders and the team's vision of them.
I highlight two discordant perceptions and even worrying:
· 92.5% of leaders believe that they create and build healthy environments, while only 55.1% of subordinates agree with this view;
· 90.5% of leaders believe they master the skill: they communicate assertively and transparently, but only 54.1% of subordinates agree with this.
There are certainly many actions to mitigate this undesirable reality and there is no “recipe for success”. Each organization must find its own. However, there is a recipe must be common to all: have effective communication, clarity in transparency, a firm purpose to evolve in relationships (good organizational climate) and excellent internal marketing. Without all of this, in my opinion, forget it, nothing gets done.
Solution? Efficient and effective People Management
For me, the term collaborator should be forgotten when it comes to People Management.
One of the solutions that should be the central focus, with people at the center of the organization, is to take care of the ongoing training of people (professionals) and the management of their performance, providing support, tools and functionalities that adhere to the best training and development practices, using methodologies aligned with the main demands (such as those diagnosed by research) and global trends. All this through effective support, for the pursuit of planned Achievements and expected Results, meeting the purpose and mission of the company and its people/professionals.
Count on leadership and followers, with perceptions any less discordants: A Great Challenge for Future Leadership!
