Digital transformation is no longer a novelty for Brazilian companies, on the contrary, it is already present in the vast majority of them, with the use of the most innovative technological tools on the market. With this scenario, the demand for qualified professionals in the technology sector grows more and more, according to a survey carried out by the recruitment company GeekHunter. According to the survey, the technology segment had an increase of 136% in its open positions in 2021 compared to the previous year.

However, the main challenge for companies has been to fill this large volume of new vacancies. Second Dice from Brasscom (Association of Information and Communication Technology and Digital Technologies Companies), the projection is not optimistic, and by 2025, the workforce deficit in the sector should reach 797 thousand. But why, with so many job opportunities, is there still a lack of technology professionals to meet this market demand?

Challenges for technology professionals and companies

It is possible to affirm that a sum of factors leads to this result, the first being the lack of training of qualified professionals in Brazil. Nowadays, a child is born living with technology and access to learning is quite simple. However, to become a professional in the field, a much deeper and more specialized technical training is necessary, which requires constant courses, training and specialization, since technology is developed and updated frequently.

This qualification can be considered a two-way street, depending on the institutions of teaching, who must be increasingly prepared to educate the student and the professional's own interest in putting theory into practice and evolving in the profession day by day, providing guidance, mentoring and always learning about new technological updates.

Another challenge faced by companies, directly impacting the deficit of technology professionals in the Brazilian market is the exodus of manpower outside the country, as the interest of foreign companies grows exponentially. The big bottleneck in this case is the weakened Brazilian currency having to compete with wages in euros, dollars, pounds, among others. In some cases, with such advances in current technology, professionals may even choose not to leave the country, but receive the salary already converted by a bank in common agreement with the international company.

In this scenario, when placing a coin next to the other, the fight becomes almost impossible. Therefore, the best way for Brazilian companies to remain competitive in the foreign market is to invest in their own identity, being aligned with the same mission and values of the collaborators, so that each professional understands the purpose of being there, thus creating, a genuine desire to be a part of and grow in company.

Impacts of the lack of technology professionals for companies

With vacancies available, but not all filled, organizations can suffer some losses, such as dammed projects, since without the ideal amount of qualified professionals, several projects are delayed or even made unfeasible. In addition, there is the financial impact for two reasons: a very high price is invested to train a qualified professional within the company itself, as well as to find a professional who is already specialized and prepared in the technology market.

In addition, the Covid-19 pandemic also had impacts on companies, one of which is the increase in cases related to mental health. According to the WHO (World Health Organization), the pandemic triggered a global growth of 25% in the prevalence of anxiety, depression and Burnout.

Therefore, this new accelerated post-pandemic technological scenario has also brought serious impacts to organizations, which in turn, should help employees find a balance between their professional and personal lives, through adjusted workloads, compatible salaries market and also actions aimed at emotional support.

Perspectives for the future

The deficit of technology professionals in Brazil can be overcome over time. In many companies, salary is not the only or the main factor to attract an employee. Therefore, it is necessary for companies to prioritize not only the financial factor, but also effective human resources actions focused on health physical and mental health of employees, contributing to the balance of personal and professional lives of employees in a healthy way in this home office model.

On the part of professionals, constant qualification is needed to keep up with market updates, always paying attention to being connected to the plans and the entire culture of the company in which they work or wish to work, exchanging knowledge and working as a team.

In this way, just as several factors contribute to the increase in the lack of technology professionals in Brazilian companies, many other factors can contribute to its recovery. And, companies must invest in innovation, an internal university, with an insightful and provocative Human Resources area linked to the company's business to attract and retain new professionals.
