Distributor internally repositions partner brand with the aim of fostering cross-selling in its portfolio, expanding the offer of security solutions with a storage and backup platform for large volumes of data

Adistec Brasil, one of the largest value-added Information Technology (IT) distributors in Latin America, announces its new business strategy for the Exagrid brand, consolidated in the market for its data storage technology for backup and data recovery. With the change, Exagrid solutions migrated to the Security Business Unit (BU), which had its approach reformulated to foster a 360° view of the business with its channel ecosystem and support them in offering hardware within data protection, as an additional active storage tool, especially for large volumes of data.

Since July, Exagrid has been part of Adistec's portfolio as a tiered storage and backup solution, with an exclusive performance Landing Zone and a long-term security and retention repository, meaning the equipment can receive and process new data while storing the data in a separate space to preserve the immutability of the information. This dual tiering provides agility in data recovery and restoration speed in the event of a disaster or ransomware.

After evaluating the market, Adistec saw the potential of Exagrid as an aggregated technology for the security BU, including the possibility of working together with users of other solutions, such as Veeam backup software, for example. “Exagrid is not operational storage hardware, but rather data protection and backup storage, adding an extra layer of security that can be incorporated into the data recovery strategy in cases of ransomware or in the immutability of data, which needs to preserve a matrix of information without the possibility of alteration”, explains André Dias, Sales Engineer at Adistec focusing on the Resilience and Data Protection BU.

Market verticals

Initially, Adistec's proposal is to strengthen among the Service Providers in its base (the distributor has a 45% share in this segment, including large data centers) an additional security tool and the differential it can offer in relation to not paying ransoms in the event of a cyber attack. ransomware. Another aspect is related to the storage of large volumes of information, especially heavy data, which can be directed to different market verticals.

In the healthcare sector, for example, Dias says that this technology can be applied to electronic medical records, since hospitals and laboratories deal with high volumes of imaging tests on a daily basis, which are heavy files. “The research ICT Health 2024, launched by the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br), revealed that 92% of healthcare facilities in Brazil have electronic systems that demand storage, performance and availability, as these are files that need to be accessed quickly and maintained for a long period of time, in view of legal demands or the complexity of the patient's history. In these situations, Exagrid can support the back office with a horizontal scalability architecture”, reinforces André Dias.

For Adistec Brazil Country Manager and Alliance Manager for LATAM, José Roberto Rodrigues, Exagrid’s new approach boosts Adistec’s portfolio by offering solutions that can add even more value to its customers’ businesses. “Cybersecurity does not have a magic formula that solves all problems; it is a multidisciplinary approach in which the combination of items creates a winning strategy in terms of preventing incidents, data security and, if necessary, fast and effective information recovery. This is what we have in mind within Adistec’s Security BU and what we will present to the market with the incorporation of Exagrid in this area,” reveals the executive.

Exagrid is the industry’s only tiered backup storage solution with retention time-locking, including a non-network-facing tier (creating a tiered air gap), delayed deletes, and immutability for ransomware recovery. In 2023 alone, research from Statista, a German online platform specializing in data collection and visualization, reveals that there were 317.59 million attacks worldwide. Against this backdrop, Exagrid announced in 2023 its largest single-scale system, enabling an industry-leading 6PB full backup with deduplication and in a 2U form factor for improved rack space efficiency, as well as new integrations with leading backup applications.
