DNS ABUSE
Report and help protect the digital environment

THE ABES – Brazilian Association of Software Companies – is committed to building a safer, more ethical, and transparent digital ecosystem. Our definition of DNS Abuse is aligned with that of ICANN and includes botnets, malware, pharming, phishing, and spam (when used as a delivery mechanism for the aforementioned forms of DNS abuse).
What is DNS abuse?
O DNS (Domain Name System) It's like the internet's “contacts book”: it translates website names (like www.example.com) for the IP addresses used by machines to connect. When criminals exploit this system to host fraudulent websites, phishing, misleading redirects or malware, this sets up a DNS abuse.
These abuses are often used to carry out scams, steal sensitive data, spread viruses, or defraud consumers and businesses.
TYPES OF DNS ABUSE

Botnets
Collections of internet-connected devices that have been infected with malware

Malware
Malicious software designed to spy on, damage, or disrupt systems

Pharming
Redirect users to fraudulent websites

Phishing
Tricking users into revealing personal information

Spam
When used as a vector for one or more of the other four types of DNS abuse
