At the most recent event organized by the World Trade Organization (WTO), ABES participated in the launch of the report “Trading with Intelligence: How AI shapes and is shaped by international trade”, considered one of the most relevant documents on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on international trade.

Eduardo Paranhos, leader of the ABES Working Group on Artificial Intelligence and who represented the association at this event, participated in a panel with notable experts: Olia Kanevskaia Whitaker, Boris Inderbitzin and Yoav Evenstein, moderated by the experienced Lauro Loks. WTO Report on AI

The report “Trading with Intelligence: How AI shapes and is shaped by international trade” acknowledges the economic and social opportunities unlocked by AI, but also addresses the significant risks and challenges associated with its development. Exploring the relationship between AI and international trade, the paper discusses how AI can redefine the future of trade by reducing costs, improving productivity, and expanding comparative advantages between economies. It also addresses emerging pressures on international trade rules, given the rapid evolution of AI and its potentially disruptive impacts. Among the critical considerations raised, the report highlights the urgent need to address the growing AI divide between economies, as well as between large and small companies. Issues of data governance and intellectual property are also discussed, along with ways to ensure the trustworthiness of AI without undermining free trade.
