“ABES celebrates 32 years with great enthusiasm, as we are pleased to continue expanding our sector representation in Brazil, due to the growth in the number of associates. Of the 18 original members, there are now more than two thousand members and affiliates. We are tuned and engaged in the main debates of this new era of transformations, most of them driven by new technologies”, explains Francisco Camargo, executive president of ABES.

“The modernization of ABES and its adaptation to the new times is continuous and this year we remodeled our Integrity Program, whose main documents are the Code of Ethics and Conduct and the Policy for Interaction with Public Agents, and we are propagating the need for an integrity program for all our associates”, highlights Francisco.

It is not by chance that many discussions and proposals for the economic and social development of Brazil speak of Industry 4.0, Education 4.0, Health 4.0, precision agriculture, digital government and other similar terms. The new communication and information technologies are promoting revolutions and, as a sectoral entity, ABES seeks to be a catalyst for these transformations, connecting companies, governments, academia and society.

In this important year of majority elections, ABES has participated in the main national debates, such as tax reform, data protection law, innovation financing, National IoT Plan, Brazilian Digital Strategy, protection of intellectual property, combating legal uncertainty and labor reform – some of them have even been part of the claims agenda since the association was founded on September 9, 1986.

“Brazil has advanced in mobile telephony, but it still needs to expand digital inclusion. We are the 9th largest technology investment market in the world, however the rate of irregular use of computer programs is still high. It is estimated that the country has, at all three levels, more than five million regulations. They are amendments to the Constitution, laws, normative instructions, resolutions, among other instruments, and that can be reinterpreted, generating a lack of Legal Security. So, our mobilization is permanent”, adds Francisco.

New service and activities in 2018

One of the new member services will launch on September 18th. It is about CyberEdge, a data protection and cyber security insurance for software companies, which aims to reduce the risks and responsibilities linked to the provision of IT services, which will offer attractive contracting conditions and formatted according to the different profiles of ABES members. This insurance will be made available by the Caixa de Assistência das Empresas de Software e Serviços do Brasil (CAESBRA).

In these 8 months of 2018, the entity has already promoted the 8th edition of the ABES SOFTWARE CONFERENCE, which discussed digital transformation with experts, executives and representatives of the federal government; led the production of the studyBrazil in the digital age: a contribution of the software and technology sector to the digital transformation of Brazil”, which was delivered to the candidates for the Presidency of the Republic with indications of priorities and public policies for Brazil to achieve its "Digital Independence" as early as 2022, the year that marks the 200th anniversary of the country's Independence.

Also noteworthy was the Connected Cities workshop, which was part of the official program of the Connected Smart Cities national event, to discuss smart city projects in Brazil, data protection, the empowerment of the connected citizen and international trends, among other topics.
