ABES – Brazilian Association of Software Companies launched this Thursday (17) a national campaign to raise awareness among Brazilians about DNS abuses and announced the creation of a page with information and a channel dedicated to receiving complaintsThe launch took place during the live broadcast “Internet Domain Abuse in Brazil: Risks, Impacts and How to Protect Users,” with the participation of experts such as Daniel Fink (ICANN), Vanda Scartezini (ABES/DNS Women), and Paulo Milliet Roque (ABES).

DNS abuse (the system that translates website names into IP addresses) occurs when criminals exploit it to host fraudulent pages, spread viruses, carry out scams, or engage in phishing. In line with ICANN's definition, ABES considers practices such as malware, botnets, pharming, spam vectors, and malicious redirects to be abused.

The new page receives complaints and provides educational content that helps users identify cyberthreats and protect themselves. Reported cases will be analyzed based on technical and legal criteria, with the support of partners specialized in damage mitigation. To learn more, visit: https://abes.com.br/abusos-de-dns/.

By encouraging Brazilians to participate, ABES reinforces its commitment to a safer, more ethical, and transparent digital environment.Awareness is the first step to protecting businesses, consumers and society as a whole.", highlighted Paulo Milliet Roque. He also cited the association's expertise and work in combating software piracy, currently concentrated online, by removing websites and links that attempt to circumvent the sale of software through member companies' official channels.

Live is the kickoff of the campaign

During the live broadcast, Daniel Fink explained what DNS is, the role of ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), and the actions it takes globally. ICANN's mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global internet.

Vanda Scartezini presented global and Brazilian market data on DNS abuse, which has an economic and social impact because it opens the door to attacks, data leaks, and theft in the virtual environment.
